Favorite fair foods and games have officially arrived under the pines at the Itasca County Fairgrounds for the start of the 117th fair. The midway, provided by Gopher State Expositions of St. Cloud, opened at noon today and offers specials through Sunday with Thursday Kids Day, Friday Family Day and Sunday Final Fling Day.

On what was one of the hottest days of the year, newly-seated U.S. Sen. Al Franken [D-Minn.] visited northern Minnesota last week and made a stop in Cohasset Friday afternoon to tour the Boswell Energy Centers Unit 3, which has been undergoing a massive retrofit to reduce emissions.
