What’s Happening at the Grand Rapids Area Library

It's Teen Read Week  October 12-18! Books with Bite  

Stop by to indulge your biting curiosity and check out books and graphic novels on animals, technology, cooking and even vampires!  Pick up a page turner that you can read or listen to, just for the fun of it! Check out what's happening at the library during Teen Read Week and Celebrate reading!

 

Teens' Top Ten Book List

Here is a chance to have your voice heard. Check the list of 25 nominees, see what you've read, and vote for your favorites at www.ala.org/teenstopten or stop in the library to vote!

Enter the drawing in the Teen Universe room for your chance to win Halloween goodies by filling out a slip of paper about scary characters.

Ever wonder about self-publishing?

Thursday, October 16 at 2pm Young Adult author Anna Fajardo will reveal the steps to self-publishing her first novel "Chosen."  She will give tips on how to get a manuscript ready for publishing as well as give information about where to get published. There is no school that day.

October 14, 7 pm Humane Population Growth- The Overriding Issue of Our Generation, with David Paxson, founder and President of the World Population Balance.

 

Thursday, October 23, at 7:00 pm  Where Have All the Ducks Gone?

Perry Loegering, Wildlife manager for the DNR, will talk about duck die-off on Lake Winnie.  "Scaups, Scoots, and Parasites on Winnie" will be presented in the Community RoomThe duck populations have been declining, why? Is there anything individuals can do about it?

 

October 30, 7 pm Local Candidate Forum TV Replay

            ICTV forums for Grand Rapids Mayor and City Council and Itasca County Commissioner District 2 will be replayed in the Community Room.  If you haven't seen the candidates yet, join us in the community room for a showing. 

            These DVDs are also available for checkout and for use in the library. (we have DVD players on the computers)

 

Additional Election Information:

            The Herald Review is putting out a Voters' Guide to local candidates in the October 22nd newspaper.  We will have extra copies here at the library. 

 

November 6, 7 pm.  Wind Energy with Bob Conzemius of WindLogics.

 The program will deal with the part wind energy can play in the solution to the nation's energy problems.

 

ECFE Book Times Continue Mondays 9:30 & 10:30

Storytimes for Preschoolers and their caregivers with games or crafts afterwards.
