Thursday, June 4th 7 pm Book Lovers' Picks for Summer Reading 

Come and hear about great books to read for the summer! Library staff Will Richter and Amy Dettmer will talk about books that have inspired this summer's movies and winners of the Minnesota Book Awards and the Northeastern Minnesota Book Awards.

Teen Summer Reading program begins June 8!!

Express Yourself at your Library

School is done and summer has finally arrived. That means it's time for the 3rd annual Teen Summer Reading Program!

            Teens are encouraged to read a book, complete a review form and put it in the bucket in the library.  From June 8 through July 25, three winners will be drawn each Friday to win prizes generously donated by local businesses and the Friends of the Library.  We've received gift certificates from Applebee's Restaurant, Village Bookstore, Brewed Awakenings, Ground Round, and Wal-Mart. The winning name for the grand prize, a PSP, will be drawn on Friday, July 24.

 

Teen Summer Activities

Friday June 5th all day:

Celebrate the end of school by stopping in Teen Universe for some treats.

 

Friday June 12 from 3:30pm-4:30pm monthly teen book discussion.

June pick: Here, there be dragons by James Owen. Join us for snacks and discussion!

 

Watch for other upcoming events during June and July, including: Green gifts, Ductigami,  a game afternoon and a movie afternoon. .

Be Creative @ your Library

            Kids' summer reading program continues.  Kids can sign up and receive a log to record time spent reading during the summer.

Book Camp June 8-11

There are only  a few spots remaining for this week's series of book-making classes for kids ages 8-11.  Each afternoon from 2:30-5:00  kids will create a  different book so register for one class or all four by calling 327-8823

 

Watch for more fun activities for kids throughout the summer, including a movie night June 18th, storytellers and music. There are also Take and Make projects each week.  Pick up a schedule at the Children's desk.

 

June 9 7:30 pm at the Reif Center   The Trap   Film Noir from Serbia

Join us for a post-film discussion at Rivers Italian, sponsor of the series.

Indies on Tuesday, the independent film series, will return to the Reif Center for 10 weeks this summer. Check the library website or the Reif Center Website  http://www.reifcenter.org  for a detailed schedule.

 

Coming up later in June

June 16th  Green Gifts creative afternoon for teens.

June 17th, 12:00  noon: Egypt in the 21st Century

            Part of the Great Decisions discussion series, the conversation will focus on the domestic issues facing Egypt, and its role in the Arab World.  ICC students and faculty who recently visited Egypt will join the discussion.

June 18th  Family Movie Night

June 20th  Book discussion of A Celtic Childhood with author Bill Watkins at Rivers Italian

 

Library programs on ICTV
